Hey, y'all! Welcome to the YouTube Channel of the School of Feedback Guitar. If you dig book reviews for books that are like method books for guitar and everything, I would recommend subscribing to the channel. I will be doing a bunch of book reviews in the near and far future.
In this particular video, I will be reviewing the funk guitar book by Ross Bolton. It's called "Funk Guitar - The Essential Guide," and it is a marvelous book if you feel confident with strumming, but you need a little bit of an introduction to funk guitar, funk rhythm guitar.
Now, this book is pretty great because it goes step-by-step into funk guitar and what funk guitar is, so starting with isolating sixteenth notes, as he puts it in the Divide and Conquer chapter of the book. What he does is he has you make sure you play specific downs and specific ups within a sixteenth note pattern like --
[plays guitar]
-- or if it's an up-strum, it would be like --
[plays guitar]
-- which is really, really great. That's so super helpful for a lot of people when they're first starting.
There are a lot of really, really cool parts in this whole book, and he goes over these whole things. There's one chapter that he goes over called "Scratch or Float," and scratching is when you hear this noise --
[plays guitar]
-- and floating is when you're just kind of floating over the strings. It's pretty self-explanatory, but then he gives you a bunch of patterns that are both like scratching and floating, like --
[plays guitar]
Actually, he's going that with an F7.
[plays guitar]
It doesn't really matter. It's more about the rhythm in it, and, of course, he extends the chords a little bit. This is my personal favorite of the book --

I think it kind of sounds really cool fast, too, so --
[plays guitar]
-- and of course, he also goes into slides, which are another big part of funk guitar.

Okay, and this book has some extra things that are going on towards the end of it and everything, which are useful, but if you're looking for a good starter intro book for funk rhythm guitar, get this one by Ross Bolton. I totally, totally recommend it. It is an excellent, excellent book.
If you're more advanced and everything, I would imagine that this book might be a little bit of a snore for you, but at the same time, there's nothing wrong with going back and reviewing and refining.
But yeah, that's it. That's all I've got for this specific book review and this video and all. If you like this book review, please feel free to subscribe. I'm going to be doing a bunch of these in the future, and it would be great to hear from you. If you left a comment or a like or something, that would be really, really, really cool, too.
But in any event, thank you so much for checking out this book review, and have an excellent rest of your day! Bye.
