UPDATES: Jazz Guitar
It seems like every week I am learning something new about teaching jazz guitar. This week, I updated how I show people the melody for a jazz tune, commonly referred to as the head. With other methods, you need to learn a lot of music notation to play just one melody. What I figured out this week so far (and it's just getting started!) is that simply showing the melody like I would show someone how to play Landslide by Fleetwood Mac does the job, and we can save music notation learning for later.

Why Playalong Videos Are Necessary For Your Guitar Lessons /
UPDATES: New Playalong Videos for Songs
I have been busy creating playalong videos for each of the songs I can teach. Dropbox is pleased: They have me for life!
Playalong videos help you play with your teacher when you're not in the lesson. Not sure what chord to play, when? Watch the video. Not sure when the chorus comes in? Watch your teacher play the right one at the right time. Playalong videos are important.
If you decide to take guitar lessons at The School of Feedback Guitar, expect hundreds of playalong videos at your disposal (not to mention awesome lessons and an inspiring environment).
Stop procrastinating and start learning guitar!

Course Updates: Power Chords and Blues Guitar /
New Updates!
I recently updated two courses that I've been teaching lately.
1. Power Chords. I have transcribed about 10 new songs of indie rock and punk rock, and I've also updated the way I approach teaching power chords to make it easier.
2. Blues Guitar. I never thought I'd teach blues guitar, but it's on! I have updated my existing course on blues guitar by showing you how to solo in all keys using three, very easy scales. Blues is now easy to approach.

Updates: Lead Guitar and Power Chords /
I've been working hard on expanding my library of songs I can teach people. Recently, I've been adding some interesting guitar solos and punk rock/alt songs (power chord based) to the list. I like creating playalong videos for each song so that people can play along with me when they are home. Recently, I put together these songs:
1. [Everything I Do] I Do It For You - Guitar Solo. Quite possibly the easiest power ballad guitar solo ever, btw.
2. Californication - Guitar Solo
3. Dance The Night Away - Guitar Solo
4. Mirrors - The Crocodiles (a really fun psych-rock band)
Interested in learning lead guitar or loud rock and roll? Look no further. I'm here and I'm ready to help you make an amazing hobby out of guitar.
The Best Practice Technique, Ever. /
If I were to give the best practice technique ever, it would be this: Variation.
Take the same exact thing that you are practicing, be it a chord progression, a lead guitar lick, or a scale, and practice it in as many different ways as possible.
Doing this strengthens the synapses needed to execute the skill faster. The synapses become coated with more Myelin, and because the circuit is more insulated, the skill becomes faster.
Last night, I was helping a student practice variations of the chord progression D to A. I asked him to play on different strings, different frets, different tempos.
Of all the practice techniques I know, just this one will make you a 10X better guitar player.
Hit me up to learn how to apply variations to your guitar practice routine!
The Cheesiest Guitar Solos, EVAH! /
I don't know quite why, but the cheesiest guitar solos of the 80's stick out to me as the most awesome guitar solos ever. I've been transcribing and teaching a ton of guitar solos as of late, and teaching them to a very interested student. He really likes the cheesiness. Maybe millenials have a higher tolerance for cheesy guitar solos?
Here are the solos I've been transcribing (and would love to teach YOU):
1. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams
2. Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship
3. Highway To The Dangerzone - Kenny Loggins
I've also been preparing to teach this same student some more Red Hot Chili Peppers solos, and some more Nirvana solos too.

1. I Should Have Known Better - The Beatles
2. Pop A Top - Jim Ed Brown
3. And It Spread - The Avett Brothers
Need a little help making the B7 chord your own? Here’s a couple of pictures to help you out.
Need a little custom help? Come and book a lesson! I'm here to help you, and I would be honored with your presence.
What is a guitar cutaway? /
[Chris's new Kronbauer by Larry Jacobsen, Attribution 2.0 Generic]
A guitar cutaway is when a guitar's body is "cut away" just below the bottom of the neck. Cutaways make it easier to play lead guitar licks and melodies up higher on the neck, like above the 12th fret.
Want to learn more about guitar cutaways and why guitars have them? I've included a bunch of high-resolution pictures for your viewing enjoyment in this blog post.
