Zoos, Slash (from Guns and Roses), Virtual Reality. Really?!?
This just in from Gibson.com: Slash apparently is going to be playing a virtual reality gig, in a zoo. Whoa.
On May 20th, Slash will headline The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s Beastly Ball, organized to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Zoo. Slash will be backed by Jimmy Vivino and The Basic Cable Band (they’re the house band for Conan O’Brien’s show) and the performance will include special guests Jack Black, Grace Potter and Bernard Fowler. The entire concert as well as backstage footage will be streamed to VR-capable devices.
Okay then, so now VR is coming to guitar. Alright then! I'm in.
While most fans will know of Slash’s interest in exotic reptiles, what’s lesser known is his work to raise awareness for the issues of dolphin slaughter and ivory poaching. In fact, Slash is even a long-time Trustee of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. In a statement, Slash said, “I'm honored and proud to be a part of the L.A. Zoo's 50th Anniversary Beastly Ball," It's going to be the biggest yet, and I'm really looking forward to jamming live with some good friends."
Happy 50th, LA zoo! And spot on for the act. When exactly have you seen an aging rocker really doing something totally different, so punk rock? Weird that VR is punk rock, but hell. It's 2017.
